Haleakala is a gigantic shield volcano which makes up three-quarters of the island of Maui. "Haleakala" means "House of the sun" in the Hawaiian language. It's easy to see how it got it's name. The crater at the top of the mountain boasts some of the finest sunrises on the planet.
